Congratulations, it’s a bouncing baby power pop single!

Digital artwork for the single

“Best practices” for blogging and newsletters suggest that one shouldn’t email on a Monday or a Friday, but it’s Friday, and I’m proctoring a test (which gives me time to tend to personal tasks). I don’t want to wait until next week for this quick announcement, and I know that nobody will read it if I send it over the weekend. But perhaps if you knew that this song is a perfect feel-good summer song that screams “weekend in 1966,” you will feel compelled to take a listen!

“This’ll Be Our Year” is now available on basically every platform for free streaming, so please give it a listen! The SoundCloud and Reverb Nation links are for the Radio Edit that I’ve been using to hopefully get it some airplay, and the other links are all full length version.

I’ll talk about the inspiration for the song itself another time. For now suffice it to say that this song is an easy singalong (I’ll even print the lyrics below the links for you to sing along — it’s mostly chorus!), and that we wanted a song that sounded Beatlesque, but perhaps what their early catalogue might have sounded like had they been from Laguna Beach instead of Liverpool. Listen all you like and share with whomever you think might enjoy!

The artwork above is by Christine Owens as part of her ANEMOI series and is among the artwork used for the digital release of “This’ll Be Our Year.”

She wades into the water under the Santa Monica pier. She gives a smile and a wave, tells me to be a little brave, Because I think that this’ll be our year. I’m just feelin’ the sand between my toes And the sunset burning into my eyes. So if you’ll pardon me my trope, I’m gonna blaze a little, Hope a little, sing a little, and get high. And is it wrong to feel so right in such uncertain times? Everybody’s got their vices. Brother, I’ve got mine. I can think of many far worse crimes. Mining the universe one molecule at a time. Stroke your ego, choke your ego, Underneath the surface we go, And we’re delving deeply in the sublime. I feel the water and close my eyes. Oh, what do I think if I float or I sink? I drink it in and watch the swells rise.

By the way, for those of you in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, I am performing in State College early in the day on Sunday, 11 August. I would like to do house concerts en route on Friday, 9 August in the Delaware River Valley anywhere from New Hope to Wilmington and Saturday, 10 August in the Lancaster, Harrisburg, or State College area. If you are interested in hosting a house concert, reply and let me know!
