“The Courage of Cowardice” Playlist (reposted from Facebook)
“The Courage of Cowardice” takes aim at hawks who have always managed to avoid direct peril but have no problem sending young Americans, most of them from the working classes, into the direct line of fire. Written in April 2016, there are obvious and direct references to the unsavory demagogue whose rhetoric managed to whip an ignorant, foolish, and easily-fooled voting bloc into the booths on his behalf, despite the fact that even a modicum of analytical capacity should have left no doubt in anybody’s mind that he is a coward with no concern for anybody serving in the armed forces.
The sound borrows heavily from the minimalist early synth songs of the 1981-1983 period of new wave music. Other featured artists include Real life, Visage, Peter Murphy, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Depeche Mode, Japan, New Order, Erasure, Yazoo, and, of course, the Eurythmics, as well as a few contemporary artists who are mining that same vein, such as John Maus, Passion Pit, M83, MGMT, and La Roux.
You can hear the playlist at THIS LINK HERE. It’s short. Only an hour and a quarter long. You’ll probably wanna listen to it seven, eight, nine times today just to make sure you fully appreciate it. Don’t forget to share it with as many friends as you can imagine wanting to hear this music, since it helps me spread my music as well.
COURAGE OF COWARDICE LYRICS
Shoot 'em up, bang bang, cue the visual effects Throw the map up on the green screen: It's where we'll go next Shill "solutions" to the ills that you put there in the first place Silver bullets, magic pills, masks for the screens you can't erase Hate your neighbors, hate the strangers who you meet out on the streets Hate the Arabs, Jews, the Queers, the intellectual elites You can cower in the shower or go fetal in the sheets Or play cowboy from the comfort of your reclining TV seat
All the uncertainty and fear You conquered 80 years ago I'll sell 'em back to you At a mark up And I'll make them look brand new
Playing to your basest desires, stoking your most illogical fires It's a tactic guaranteed to never miss You'll fork over everything you have on this shell-empty promise A windfall for the courage of my cowardice
That's the power of the pulpit, cult of personality The drone of war waged by remote The silver-tongued serpent doesn't have to steal the vote.
It's the simplest explanation for the shortest-spanned attention Gad about the nation shouldn't even be worth second mention But the lies I sell, so outsized, so colossal, so absurd Could not have been invented so must be God's honest word That you must follow or fall silent; fall dead upon the spot If you don't fall in step with those who promise to fire the first shot But if you venture to place censure or to say what's not is not You'll be silenced with the violence of a noose or a garrote.
